Two women sexually harassed in Shillong

SHILLONG, June 13: A case of sexual harassment came to light on Sunday when a woman lodged a complaint against three men alleging that they entered her workstation and one of them passed lewd comments on her.

Speaking to reporters, she said, “When he passed lewd comments at me, I got angry and followed him and when I filly confronted him, he started yelling at me and even got hold of by hand.  Even though the incident took place in front of many passersby, I’m amazed that no one came forward to help however a few of them shouted at him to let my hand go.”

Meanwhile, another woman in a case of stalking filed an FIR against a person who stalked her at Police Bazaar.

 “The incident took place on Saturday while I was waiting for my mother at MUDA complex,” said the woman.

She said the unidentified person started waving at her and later followed her outside the complex.

“On seeing this I went over to the traffic police booth and phoned my friends. When my friends came to my rescue he stopped following me,” she said adding that they had tried to look for him but were uble to trace him. She informed that an FIR has been filed at Sadar Police Station.

“I want to urge other women not to remain silent when faced with a similar situation but instead they should come forward and fight for their rights,” she said.
