Tamulpur, July 31: Two youths, 37-year old Manoj Dutta and 33-year old Raju Bhatta, drowned to death on Sunday evening while both of them were clicking photos along with two other friends along the bank of river Kalanodi near Darrangamela under Tamulpur police station in the district of Baksa.
According to reports, Manoj and Raju and two other friends, Tripalok Deka (33) and Dhanjit Barman (33), residents of Japarkuchi village of Nalbari, on Sunday morning came to Samdrup Jhankhar town of Bhutan. In the evening they went along the bank of river Kalanodi to click photographs. Suddenly, Dhanjit fell down into the water and drowned. To rescue Dhanjit, Raju Bhatta, who did not know how to swim, jumped into the water and Raju also drowned. Later, to rescue Raju, Manoj also jumped into the deep water. Dhanjit managed to rescue himself somehow. But the current of the water of the hilly river swept away both Manoj and Raju.
Tripalok and Dhanjit became helpless and informed Darrangamela police outpost about the accident. Nayan Das, in-charge of Darrangamela police outpost, rushed to the spot with a police team and recovered both Manoj and Raju. Manoj had died and Raju was sent to the Patkijuli Hospital where he was declared dead. In the evening, family members and friends of Manoj and Raju reached Darrangamela police outpost. On Monday morning, bodies of Manoj and Raju were sent to Mushalpur for post-mortem.
