Tynsong under Congress glare for attending NPP event

From A Reporter

SHILLONG, Nov 14: Cabinet Minister and senior Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh has stated that the matter of Congress MLA Prestone Tynsong attending a tiol People’s Party (NPP) meeting at Sohryngkham will be reviewed by the party and, if necessary, action will be taken against him.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “We will first have to go through the anti defection law under the 10th Schedule to know whether his activities are tantamount to anti-party activities and, if so, then we will certainly take action.”

On being asked about the comments made by Tynsong that he will resign before the Legislative Assembly session as he no longer has faith on the leadership of Mukul Sangma, Lyngdoh said, “A single person’s opinion or decision holds no relevance for the party as Sangma was elected by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP). But if the majority of the CLP members are not happy, then their opinion or decision will undoubtedly hold relevance.” He said: “While Tyngsong was a Cabinet Minister in the Mukul Sangma led-Congress government, he was very happy. But after being dropped as a Minister, he suddenly became unhappy with Sangma’s leadership.”

He said it is very strange that he did not raise any objections against the present government while he was a Cabinet Minister. If he does not agree or has lost faith with the leadership, then he should have stepped down at that point of time, he said.

Asked whether it will affect the performance of the Congress in the Assembly election if a number of its sitting MLAs leaves the party, Lyngdoh said, “You see, we are the only party in which candidates are fighting for tickets and no one is fighting to get a party ticket in other political parties, including the NPP. Moreover, there is no one who is fighting for an NPP ticket in Pynursla constituency.”

He added, “If other sitting Congress MLAs resign, then it’s better for the party as we’ll not have dissenting people within the party and the Congress will become even stronger.”
