Tyrso Nongkhyllep headman abusing power: Locals

SHILLONG, June 19: The Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC), along with residents of Tyrso Nongkhyllep village, has decided to file a complaint against Jos Shadap, headman of the village at the office of Syiem Hima Khyrim and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) alleging that he has been abusing his authority.

Hercules Suting, president of HYC’s Raid Nongtung Circle, told newsmen on Saturday that the headman had abused his authority by trying to stop the distribution of mosquito nets by the Health department on June 6.

Iohilut Lyngdoh, a resident of Tyrso Nongkhyllep village, alleged that Jos Shadap tried to stop the distribution of mosquito nets in the village by saying that those people who does not have proper sanitation will not be able to avail the nets.

“The headman also said that those people without proper sanitation will not even be able to avail MHIS, Job cards besides other schemes,” she said adding that the headman informed that the decision was taken by the village dorbar. She also alleged that the headman rejected the application by Britis Bey and Kwi Marsharing regarding for widow grants. Hercules Suting also alleged that the headman has threatened to ostracize the family of one Kwik Mawlong and Phen Marsharing.
