U Tirot Sing theme of NE's first animation film

Shillong, February 13: An animation film on the Khasi freedom fighter, U Tirot Sing titled “U Syiem” - the first of its kind in Meghalaya as well as in the North East - will premiere in March.

U Syiem (the King) is a CGI (Computer Generated Images) animated film, inspired on the life of U Tirot Sing.

“As animation is a very powerful medium in delivering a message and also educate an audience both young and old, the animated movie U Syiem (U Tirot Sing Syiem),” the makers of the animated movie said.

“Our objective is to bring history back and educate the world about our culture,” Ban Casper Mawlong director and writer of the animation film said.

Mawlong, has a decade of experience in the animation industry, many works featured in cartoon network India and also involved with Cadian animation and VFX Films.

According to Mawlong, the movie is specially designed for a universal age audience and both young and old can witness “history comes to life”.

According to the director and writer of the movie, it took three years in making the animation movie. The movie was made at a shoe string budget of Rs 33 lakh.

When asked about the difficulties the team faced while making the movie, Mawlong said that with a shoe string budget getting equipments was difficult.

“We saved from our own pockets and also did freelance projects to fund the movie,” Mawlong said.

The members of the group under the me of Cosmic Clusters are mostly professiols based in Kolkata. Some of the members of the group have worked on a freelance project for Vivel ads, ads for local products in Kolkata and also worked on e-learning projects in Saudi Arabia. The movie will be screened at U Soso Tham auditorium on March 5 for invitees only while the commercial screening will be on March 6 and 7 at 1:00pm, 3:30pm and 6:00pm.

The tickets will be available on selected stores and Aircel outlets for Rs 150 and Rs 200 only.
