U Tirot Sing's death anniversary

SHILLONG, July 18: The Hima Nongkhlaw commemorated the 182 years death anniversary of U Tirot Sing at Mairang on Monday.

The Hima Nongkhlaw, along with other clans of the Khasis, paid tributes to this ferocious warrior by placing flowers at his monuments in Mairang.

This beautiful ceremony was witness by many people from mairang and its neighboring localities, governments’ officials including Ronnie V Lyngdoh Minister of Arts and Culture, MLA Kennedy Khyriem who is the parliamentary secretary officers including schools and colleges representatives of Mairang.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest Lyngdoh assured the people of Mairang that before the next commemoration date a full size statue of ‘U Tirot Sing’ will be unveil with an aim that people from both the state and outside can come and see it first hand and learn something from this great freedom fighter of the Khasi’s the state has ever produced.

He also urged the leaders to follow the ruling principles of Tirot Sing by putting the people priorities first before his.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Khyriem stress on the importance of following the foot step of ‘U Tirot Sing’ by all in order to achieve great thing in life.

He urged the people especially the school students to work hard and gives their best dedication to achieve success.

The Khasi Student Union (KSU) of Mairang circle felicitates the meritorious students in their respective examition to encourage them to work hard.

The commemoration day was concluded by traditiol songs and dances competition among the schools and colleges of Mairang and archery competition among the people who attended the function.
