UBPO demands firm action against NDFB (Songbijit)

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, January 5: The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO), a united platform of different Bodo organizations outside BTC, has demanded that the government should deal with the NDFB (S) faction led by IK Songbijit with firm hands for creating misunderstanding and hatred among people with senseless killings of innocent people on December 23 in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.

In a press release, the general secretary of the UBPO, undivided Dhemaji–Lakhimpur district committee, Sukreswar Goyary said that the NDFB (S) had been carrying out anti–people activities like kidpping, extortions, killings and other unlawful activities in lower Assam and North Assam districts. Saying that the December 23 carge was an act of cowardice and inhumanity, he said the anti–people activities and mindless killings of innocent people by the NDFB (S) had caused hatred and misunderstanding among communities. He also said that by killing innocent people, the NDFB (S) had made the Bodos a hated community.

Goyary said the organization felt that such incidents were getting repeated in the region due to utter failure on the part of the government and police administration to maintain law and order. He alleged that many Bodo youths had become victims of the government’s opportunist and myopic policies on curbing terrorism. He also alleged that the undesired incidents could be due to the government’s weaknesses.

UBPO welcomed the stand of the Government of India for crackdown on the NDFB (S) with zero tolerance.  The organization also hailed the operation against the militant outfit. Goyary also demanded adequate ration and other logistic support in the relief camps and ensuring safety and security of common people.

Meanwhile, the Dhemaji and Lakhimpur district committees of UBPO, Dhemaji and Joi district Bodo Sahitya Sabha, ABSU, ABWWF, Simen Chapari Anchalik Committee, ABSU, Lakhimpur district Ex–BLT Welfare Society, Simen Anchalik Bathou Mahasave and Brahma Dharma Parichala and Surrendered NDFB Welfare Association recently brought out a peace rally at Simen Chapari and submitted a memorandum to SDO (C) at Joi.
