UBPO wants fil modality of Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council before poll

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 18: The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) which has been struggling for creation of autonomous council for the Bodo and other indigenous communities of Assam outside the BTC, has sought fil modality of the proposed Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council (BKAC) before the start of electioneering for the assembly election. In a press statement, the spokesperson of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary said an executive meeting of the organization was held at Bodoland Guest House, Beltola on Wednesday under the president ship of Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the UBPO, to discuss on the proposed Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council announced by the Chief Minister and its necessity of framing complete modalities before the advent of assembly poll. He said the UBPO hailed the formation of cabinet sub-committee on Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council at the behest of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi which is headed by MLA Dr Bhumidar Barman with ministers Rakibul Hussain and Sumitra Patir as members. The meeting which was explained by the secretary Gambaru Basumatary, also resolved to urge the cabinet sub-committee on Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council to submit the recommendations on the new council to the Government of Assam at the earliest. The UBPO urged the Government of Assam to frame the modalities taking the UBPO into confidence which struggled for the creation of new council and also urged the government not to involve the individuals or leaders who were not associated and had no contribution in the movement for Bodo-Kachari Autonomous Council, in the formation of administrative set up of the new council.
