Udalguri BJP not to support AGP in Kalaigaon

From our Correspondent

MANGALDAI, March 29: How serious are the leaders of BJP in their poll alliance with Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) and Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)? Failure on the part of the BJP leaders to issue clears instructions to the Udalguri District Committee and Mandal Committees on poll alliance with both the AGP and BPF has created deep confusion among the grassroots level workers of the BJP, particularly in 65 Kalaigaon LAC.

The double standard policy adopted by the BJP on the poll alliance has also caused embarrassment to the BPF workers. In a glaring reflection of the double standard policy of the BJP, the BJP workers in Kalaigaon LAC were seen divided into two groups –one group supporting the BPF and the other group supporting the AGP.

As the State leaders of the BJP failed to issue clear instructions on poll alliance, majority of the BJP workers in Kalaigaon LAC, as per discussion with the Udalguri District Committee of BJP, decided to extend their full support to the BPF candidate Maheswar Boro and accordingly on Monday a function was organized at the office of the BPF at Kalaigaon where the Udalguri District Committee BJP president Keshab Barua, District Mohila Morcha president Nilima Brahma and other office bearers were present and they also hoisted the BJP flag in the BPF office. Deputy Speaker of BTC Assembly, Tridip Daimary, BPF leader Keshab Chandra Deka, BPF candidate for Kalaigaon, Maheswar Boro and other office bearers of the BPF were also present in the meeting. Despite the unexpected heavy downpour, a good number of supporters of BPF and the BJP were seen attending the function at Kalaigaon.

However, at the same time, making a mockery of the BPJ-BPF poll alliance, a section of BJP activists of Kalaigaon led by Niranjan Singh attended a meeting in the office of the AGP at Kalaigaon with AGP candidate Mukunda Ram Chowdhury and extended their support to the AGP.

In a joint press meet at the BPF office, Udalguri District Committee president Keshab Barua failed to reply to the queries of the media persons on the simultaneous poll alliance with AGP and BPF and said that the high command of BJP was yet to give any instructions on it and admitted that for this lapse the BJP workers in Kalaigaon LAC were confused. However, he said that the district committee would continue its support to BPF.

Today it was very interesting to witness a number of BJP activists moving with BPF flag while others were seen with the AGP flag. Grassroots level activists of the BJP have termed it as very unfortute and blamed the State leaders for creating this confusion. “Perhaps the BJP leaders in the State who are dreaming of their Mission 84+ did not think it necessary to issue a clean and clear instruction on their poll alliance. Maybe they have the idea to accept the winning candidate irrespective of his party affiliation as their alliance partner,” opined an aggrieved BJP activist while talking to The Sentinel this afternoon at Kalaigaon.

However, the BPF activists are not worried over it and termed it as the BJP’s interl party matter. “We are not dependent on the BJP in Kalaigaon LAC though in all the assembly constituencies of the BTAD the BJP has come into poll alliance with the BPF. The BPF is enjoying the support from all sections of the society and inner conflict, if any in the BJP, can never hamper us,” said a confident BPF activist on condition of anonymity while talking to The Sentinel.

The decision of the Udalguri district committee of BJP to extend full support to the BPF in Kalaigaon has been termed as a major blow to the AGP as the AGP was hopeful of support and cooperation from the BJP workers. The BJP workers in Kalaigaon, except a few, are seen launching massive campaign in favour of the BPF candidate in the constituency. The constituency is going to witness a straight contest between the BPF and AGP and the BPF has been able to create a wave among the grassroots level electorates.
