Udalguri jourlists stage sit-in to protest assault on scribe

UDALGURI, June 22: The Udalguri Press Club, Vartajivi Sangha Assam, and Udalguri district Jourlists’ Association staged a two-hour long protest in front of the Udalguri DC office on Monday. Scribes from across the district took part in the protest against the recent assault on a jourlist from Khairabari, Prasanta Kumar, by miscreants. Kumar was shot at and tortured for two hours by the miscreants inside their vehicle. He was later found at Tangla Babupara. A memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister demanding proper security for all scribes of the district. The district committee of ASSU and ABSU were also extended their support to the jourlists’ plea. Rinjoy Boro, the Udalguri district committee ABSU president, Pranjal Patowary, ASSU Udalguri district committee president, Bitopan Das, the State executive of ASSU and other distinguished leaders also took part in the demonstration.
