Udalguri students demand construction of hostel, bandh hits life

KALAIGAON, Feb 15: The 24-hour Udalguri district bandh on Thursday paralyzed normal life in Kalaigaon. The bandh was called by Udalguri district committee of All Assam Koch Rajbongsi Students’ Union (AAKRSU) to demand action against State PHE minister Rihon Daimari and BTC Speaker Tridip Daimari for allegedly preventing construction of its hostel building in Udalguri town.

Dibyajyoti Deka, president of Udalguri AAKRSU, stated in a press release that the government had allotted fund to build a hostel for the students of the Koch Rajbongsi community. But Rihon Daimari and Tridip Daimari had allegedly tried to prevent the construction of the building. So, Udalguri AAKRSU called the bandh in protest. He also added, “If the authority concerned does not take any initiative to build the hostel building within a short period then they will call BTC bandh.”

During the bandh, buses and other vehicles did not ply and streets wore a deserted a look. Government offices, banks, schools, colleges along with other institutions remain closed. Adequate security measures had been made throughout Kalaigaon area to maintain law and order during the bandh. The bandh passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
