UDP appreciates HSPDP's ?goodwill gesture'

From A Correspondent

SHILLONG, April 19: United Democratic Party (UDP) general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh today welcomed the move of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) not to field candidates in seats where other regiol parties have chances to win in the 2018 Assembly elections.

“We appreciate the stand taken by Ardent Basaiawmoit. It is a matured move on the part of the HSPDP,” Mawthoh said. The UDP general secretary also said that his party too wants an understanding with like-minded parties.

“The UDP is always ready for an alliance with like-minded parties. But it all depends on their response,” Mawthoh said.

It may be mentioned that on Tuesday, the HSPDP offered as “goodwill gesture” not to put up candidates in constituencies where the chances of winning of others regiol parties are bright. The HSPDP president, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit however made it clear that the party does not expect other regiol parties to reciprocate the gesture.
