UDP candidate seeks open debate

SHILLONG, July 21: The United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate for the MDC by-elections from Nongkrem constituency, H S Shylla today informed that a letter has been sent to Stenis L. Pyngrope, headman of Laitkor Rngi and president of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Khyrim Mylliem Lum (SKNSKML) to organize the ‘open debate’. In the letter Shylla informed the headman on the five issues up for debate which includes the issue on traditiol institutions and headmen issue, Article 244 (2) which is for strengthening the district councils, encroachment by MUDA, compulsory registration of marriage Act, 2012 and MLA schemes. Shylla in the letter to the headmen urged them to take up the responsibility of organizing the open debate between his party and the Nongkrem HSPDP seriously. He however said that the open debate should be held in the second week of August before the state government announces the dates for the MDC by-elections.
