UDP general meeting discusses important issues

SHILLONG, Oct 29: The UDP, in its general meeting, has taken note of various issues affecting the public at large and has strongly criticized the State government’s failure in every aspect.

Speaking to reporters after the general meeting, UDP leader Bindo Lanong said there has been growing inconveniences in matters concerning city lives - extreme congestion, increased traffic jam, population growth, scarcity in water supply, increase in price of various commodities and food stuff. The State government should address these problems immediately.

Taking note of the growing unemployment, Lanong said “This has given rise to many crimil activities including drug trafficking, extortion, kidpping and crimes like rape and molestation cases, besides others.”

The UDP feels that the government should waste no further time but start creating employment opportunity by encouraging small scale industries and varieties of self employment scheme.

With regards to the KHADC, Village Administration Bill (VAB), he said, “We cannot understand this discrimitory attitude of the government who have approved the VAB of the JHADC but fail to do the same for the VAB of the KHADC as the delay is affecting the local administration and powers of local dorbars and till date this matter is still hanging in suspense.”

Lanong also lambasted the State government for protecting and turning a blind eye to tainted leaders like the EX- CEM JHADC who allegedly was involved in corruption case.

Meanwhile in the UDP general meeting, SHG City elected Paul Lyngdoh as its new President including Bindo Lanong as the Chief Adviser, Vice President Embhah Syiemlieh and Jemino Mawthoh , Secretary, Allantry Dkhar, Chief Organiser, Joe Marwein among others also took part.
