UDP to take fil decision on functioning of District Council

SHILLONG, Feb 10: The United Democratic Party (UDP) in a meeting held on February 9, decided to wait till February 16, as requested by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) before taking a fil decision on the style of functioning of the District Council.

“If the clarification from the CEM on that day (February 16) is satisfying then we will welcome it, however, if it turns out to be different, the party through the parliamentary party and leaders of the party who are part of the sub-committee of KHADC will take a decision to move forward,” general secretary of UDP, Dr. Jemino Mawthoh said while speaking to reporters after the meeting of the Sub Committee of KHADC on Thursday.

It may be mentioned that the decision of the party on Thursday came after the deadline given by the party to the CEM to clarify on nine issues sought by the Parliamentary Party of UDP in relation to the style of functioning of the Council including misappropriation of funds ended on February 7.

Mawthoh said that the CEM in letter informed that he is uble to clarify on the 9 issues sought by the UDP at the moment, however, he asked for time by saying that the matter will be taken up for discussion in the Executive Committee and PDF meeting scheduled on February 16. “Our decision will be taken based on the clarification given to us on that day,” he said without disclosing the kind of decision to be taken by the party.

The 9 point queries raised by the UDP included the alleged misappropriation of funds of Rs. 16 lakhs of the Forest department, appointment of magistrate, loan amounting to Rs. 35 lakhs issued by the KHADC to the Khasi Heritage Conservation Forum (KHCF). The UDP had also sought clarification on the withdrawal of Professiol Tax amounting to Rs. 2 crores and deposited into a persol account, besides other queries.
