UGC-sponsored national workshop focuses on education policies

GOLAGAT, June 2: A UGC-sponsored one-day national workshop was held on recently at Debraj Roy College, Golaghat.

The workshop was organized by the Department of Mathematics on the topic 'Some aspects of teaching learning and evaluation process in the semester system'. Prof. B.C. Tripathy, Head, Department of Mathematics, Tripura University was present as chief guest in the workshop.

Dr. Putul Chandra Saikia, Principal of DR College, delivered the welcome address and Dr. Tapan Kr. Baishya, convener of the workshop, explained the aim and objectives of the workshop. About 100 participants took part in the workshop.

Prof. Tripathy gave emphasis in his keynote lecture on the facts which were related to the policies taken by the Government of India for higher education. His talk focused on positive and negative aspects of MOOC in CBCS system. His talk also consisted of teaching and learning methodologies related to both mathematical and non-mathematical ideas.

Prof. Mukut Hazarika, Dean, School of Education, Dibrugarh University discussed various methods of evaluation process based on psychological aspects which enhance students' knowledge. Social impacts of game theory were discussed by Prof. Surajit Borkotokey, Head, Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University. The workshop concluded that the transition of the education system from the age-old annual system to present semester system had a great impact on the students, teachers and the society. In Assam, the universities are preparing to implement the CBSC system from next year. So it is the need of hour to discuss the merits and demerits of the semester system before implementation of the CBCS system.
