Ugly face of land grabbing attempt in city

Staff Reporter

Guwahati, July 8: With availability of land within Guwahati becoming scarce, land grabbers are seemingly giving a tough time to genuine landlords. As per allegations a plot of miyadi land belonging to ex-Deputy Chairman of the GMDA Parimal Das in Ward No 19 and located behind Mizoram House has reportedly drawn the attention of land grabbers since sometime.

While the owner Das has let out the accommodation on the land to tenants reportedly since long, sometime back land grabbers claimed that the land belonged to them and allegedly indulged in violence against the tenants. Alleging that the gang was led by one Rituraj Dutta, the daughter of Das Kristi Das who was also Mrs India 2017 said that when she arrived at the spot she too was physically assaulted.

She further said that while a complaint was lodged against Rituraj and others at Bhanagagarh police station, no one has been arrested while the accused have been at large or absconding.

Talking to the media she further said that on Saturday Rituraj arrived at the place with his gang and ordered the tenants to vacate the land within Sunday or face dire consequences.

On the other hand, Ward councellor Channa Ghosh said that as per his knowledge the land has been in the name of Parimal Das for over 22 years. He said that the police should thoroughly investigate the matter and that Rituraj should be arrested.

Kristi Das also said that as of now she and her family don't feel secure even at home and over her own land while alleging that the police have till date done nothing and that the accused is having a field day.
