Ugratara Theft: Seven detained, idol still to be traced

GUWAHATI: Till Monday, the police has detained as many as seven persons, including two women for interrogation, in connection with the sensational Ugratara Devalaya looting case.

According to the police, the main idol is yet to be recovered. It has already been sold somewhere to a scrap dealer at Rs 7,000. The source also added that the video footage recorded during the fateful night by the CCTV camera is of very poor quality to detect the culprits.

Notably, the Devalaya had been looted nine years ago. Since then, a home guard has been engaged for its security. His only weapon is a baton.
