ULFA-I has weakened financially, they are trying to revive their old cadres: Deepak Kumar

Guwahati: Assam Police arrested around five people in connection to Guwahati Grenade Blast incident on Wednesday last, informed Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar before the media.

Till Saturday morning, Assam police had apprehended three more suspects, who had direct connections to the outlawed faction ULFA-I.

Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar also mentioned that these three people were engaged in executing the grenade blast incident in the city.

Identified as Amrit Ballab Goswami, Indra Mohan Borah and Chinmoy Lahokar had been operating in the city since past one week and under the supervision of Pranamoy Rajguru and Janabi Saikia and executed the entire planning related to the grenade blast.

Speaking to the media, Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar said, “Based on inputs, we managed to track down three more suspects to the grenade blast incident, one Amit Ballab Goswami hailing from Merapani in Golaghat is a bomb expert and a former ULFA-I cadre. He also helped in supplying and transporting logistics to the main accused behind the grenade blast incident. Another accused, Indra Mohan Borah was arrested from Nagaon, he helped the accused to escape from Nagaon to Golaghat. He came to Guwahati 6 to 7 days back and executed the plan along with Janabi and Rajguru, locating every nooks and corner of the city. One more youth, Chinmoy Lahokar from Christian Basti, a newly appointed ULFA-I cadre was also arrested from Guwahati, he was company and support to the main accused on the day of the incident.”

Police also suspects there might be more people who are involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, CP Kumar claimed that the outlawed faction ULFA-I has weakened financially and therefore, they are trying to revive their old cadres to create an over ground organization in various parts of the state.

“These over ground workers recruit fresh new cadres in their organization, they also provide logistics support and help in to spread the ideology of the ULFA-I amongst the youth as well,” added CP Kumar.
