ULFA (I) leader assures kidnapped youth’s well-being

DIGBOI: “The abducted youth is safe with us and will be released within a couple of days, there is absolutely nothing to worry about him and please take care of the ailing mother of the victim whose health condition was not known to us,” said a person over the phone. This person claimed to be Nayan Medhi, an active leader of the Paresh Baruah faction of the ULFA. On Wednesday morning he had called up Purna Bora, the brother of Bijoy Bora who owns the stone quarry at Jagun where abduction had taken place.

Apurba Kakoty of Digboi Ramnagar was abducted on November 20 by a group of armed suspected ULFA (I) rebels from a stone quarry at Jagun Ten Miles in Tinsukia district at around 6 pm. The victim is the son of Anjan Kakoty, manager-cum-caretaker of the plant located along the Assam-Arunachal border between Jagun and Jairampur.

Talking to media persons, Bora disclosed that the person who had made the phone call had informed him about the well-being of the abducted youth and assured to release him within a couple of days on fulfilment of certain conditions. Denying that any ransom call had been made, Bora said that kidnappers claimed to be ULFA rebels and expressed concern over the health condition of the ailing mother of the abducted youth. The local people of Ramnagar had also resorted to an hour-long road blockade to demand safe release of the abducted youth and they lambasted the BJP-led government in Assam for its failure to ensure safety and security to the people of the State.
