ULFA rebels apprehended, arms recovered

JOYSAGAR, May 5: Charaideo Police special operation team led by SP Jitmal Doley arrested two ULFA (I) ultras in an operation conducted along the Assam-Arunachal border on Friday night. The arrested ultras have been identified as one Nirmal Khaklari alias Nirmal Axom (27) and Bijit Konwar (28) of Salekhati area. Police also recovered one NQ-71 rifle, two magazines, 78 rounds live bullets of NQ-71 rifle and four mobile phones from the possession of the nabbed ultras. Sources informed that the accused are suspected to be involved in the Sapekhati daily bazar firing incident a few days ago and Bijit Konwar was allegedly the person who gave shelter and food to the ULFA (I) and NSCN militants that night. Besides, during the operation, ULFA (I) leaders like Arohan Axom, Dibya Axom and Dipta Axom and about 12 ULFA (I) cadres were able to make good their escape, sources added.
