Ultramarathon runner Samir Singh reaches Aizawl

Silchar, April 18: Ultramarathon runner Samir Singh, who is on a 15,000 km run to generate funds for the families of martyrs of the Central Armed Police Forces, reached Aizawl on Tuesday where he was received by C P Meena, Officiating Commandant, DIG Sector Headquarters, in presence of huge gathering of BSF officers and troops. Singh reached the sector headquarters of the BSF after passing through Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. The marathon was flagged off by K K Sharma, IPS, DG BSF at Attari border in Amritsar, Punjab, on December 1 last year.

From Aizawl, Singh along with his six member team will proceed to Manipur. He is covering 80 km to 100 km every day. The ultra-marathon titled "Run for Bharat Ke Veer", an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, headed by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will terminate on the Attari border in April after crisscrossing 22 states of the country. Singh exuded confidence that his effort will succeed in generating funds for the families of martyrs through online donations on the "Bharat Ke Veer" portal. The BSF has been extending all logistic support in areas where it is deployed to Samir Singh.

Hailing from Kanaheda village in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, Singh comes from a peasantry family. He started running at the age of 35 and soon discovered his love for long-distance run. Singh has won a couple of ultra races in the country such as Vadodara-Mumbai Ultra (a 12-hour run). He finished at the top after having logged 121 km in 2016 and 107 km in 2015.
