Umakanta Das

Veteran politician, social activist Umakanta Das breathed his last on December 14. He was 81. Born in 1934 at Batiyapara village in Mirza, late Das worked as lecturer of Business Magement department in Guwahati Commerce College. Prior to this, he also worked in the LIC after completion of his post-graduation. Das, who served as the president of Youth Congress, also contested in the Assembly polls two times from Palashbari constituency. He was actively associated with organization till the time of his demise. He leaves behind his wife Sashiprabha Das, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
