UN semir held in Guwahati

Guwahati, June 9: The United tions Resource Centre (UNRC), North Eastern Region (NER) in collaboration with Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati had organised a semir on June 6 on environmental issues for the students at the school’s Mama Margaret auditorium. School Principal Fr. Sebastian Mathew welcomed the UN dignitaries and felicitated them. An earth song was also presented on the occasion by one of the students of the school. The chief resource person was Sanjeeb Kakoty, panelist, UNRC, NER, who addressed the Bosconians on the various aspects of our environment. He also presented a power point presentation titled ‘Bio-mimicry’ where he highlighted the fact that people are making non-polluting agents without polluting birds, animals, etc. Executive Director of UNRC, NER Dr. Aswini Sarma then read out the message of Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General on the occasion of World Environment Day. Prizes for the essay competition held on the themes of water, bio-diversity and forests were also distributed to the winning students. Moromi Goswami, Academic Officer, UNRC, NER along with other senior officials of the organization were also present on the occasion. The formal vote of thanks was offered by school Vice Principal Fr. Pradeep Ekka. This was stated in a press release.
