Uncertainty looms over JEE Advanced 2021 exam, dates likely to change

The current situation in the country has led to the postponement and cancellation of various exams. There is uncertainty looming over the conduction of the JEE Advanced exams. JEE Advanced is conducted by IIT Kharagpur. Earlier, the JEE Advanced was to be conducted on the 3rd of July, but with the increase in the coronavirus outbreak, it is likely to get postponed.

The JEE (Main) April-May 2021 session has also been postponed by the National Testing Agency due to the prevailing situation.

According to Director, IIT Hyderabad, BS Murty, " If JEE Advanced is to be conducted per schedule, then ideally one session of JEE Main was to be conducted in May, and the second session in June. However, now that JEE Mains exam has been postponed, it is very likely that the exam date for the Advanced exam will also have to be pushed forward."

Due to the COVID19 outbreak in the country, the JEE (Main) was also deferred in 2020. It was later conducted from September 1st to 6th, and JEE Advanced 2020 was conducted on the 27th of September.

BS Murty states, " As per the COVID predictions based on the modeling at institutes and agencies across the country, the peak of the second wave of the coronavirus is expected to be flattened by Mid-June and we will be back to where we were in February 2021, slightly recovering. Once the second round of JEE Main is held, only three weeks are required to prepare to conduct JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced 2021 may be conducted around September only."

Another IIT Director of the North-Central Zone stated that there is uncertainty over the conduction of the exams. Meanwhile, CBSE has also postponed the final exams and has no updates regarding the new and final scheduled yet. He further adds, " JEE Advanced has to be postponed, there is no other way out to go ahead with the IIT admissions."
