KOKRAJHAR, May 23: The Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) was held at Udalguri recently under the chairmanship of its president Urkao Gwra Brahma. Some important resolutions were passed. The meeting discussed pros and cons regarding the forthcoming Lok Sabha election and it was decided that UPPL would contest in different constituencies of Assam, inside and outside the BTC area. The meeting discussed widely about the possibility of having pre-poll or post-poll alliance or seat adjustment with other political parties. The meeting did analysis about the national-level political development and after a threadbare discussion, welcomed wholeheartedly the possible ‘National Third Front’ alternative to the present incumbent party in the government and expressed willingness to be a part of such front, if emerged.

The meeting decided to revamp the existing ‘SC Cell’ and form a new ‘Other Backward Class (OBC) Cell’ in the last part of the August, and hold a special convention for that at Gossaigaon. The meeting reaffirmed to hold triennial conference of the UPPL in the district of Kokrajhar on September 29 and September 30, as decided earlier and the Kokrajhar district committee of the UPPL was directed to form the reception committee for that immediately. Further, all the district committees of the UPPL were directed to complete holding of their respective annual conferences before the central conference.
The meeting resolved to organize public meetings in various places within the month of June, particularly in the districts of Udalguri, Bhergaon and Tamulpur with a view to strengthening the mass support of the party. In the meeting, all district committees were directed to form ‘booth-level committees’ also as a preparation for the Lok Sabha election before the scheduled central conference of the party.
