SHILLONG, Feb 21:  The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) spearheading the anti-uranium campaign in Meghalaya has expressed surprise over the claim of United Democratic Party (UDP), MDC from Nongkrem constituency Hispreaching Son Shylla that his Executive Committee had given permission only for construction of the road and not to extract uranium to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL).

“HS Shylla is telling lie on this issue,” the KSU said.

According to the KSU, it was when Shylla was the CEM in 2006, when the MoU was signed between the Executive Committee (EC) of the KHADC and UCIL. The MoU was signed in January 12, 2006.

The KSU also said that it has thoroughly studied the contents of the MoU and Shylla gave permission to extract uranium.

The students’ union also urged Shylla not to mislead the public.

Meanwhile, the KSU demanded that the district council led by Pynshngain N Syiemas CEM, Executive Members and MDCs to cancel the MoU during the current session of the KHADC at the interest of the future generation of the State.
