US envoy visits Indo-Bangla border

Agartala: US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster on Thursday visited the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura as part of his maiden visit to the northeast.

“The Ambassador visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Agartala-Akhaura border along the India-Bangladesh frontier and attended the beating retreat ceremony. As part of his cultural outreach, he also visited the impressive Tripura State Museum housed in 117-years-old Ujjayanta Palace here,” a state government official said.

The US Ambassador during his brief interaction with the media said that Tripura has a huge potential in the tourism sector but he suggested the development of infrastructure.

“I am charmed after witnessing and learning the culture and heritage of Tripura,” the envoy said.

Juster, along with other US officials, reached here on Wednesday on a two-day tour. He met Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and discussed various developmental issues of the state.

An official release said: “This visit is a testimony of strengthening the bilateral relation between India and the US. This tour of top US envoy would play an instrumental role in ensuring further synergy in the India-US relations.” Juster was appointed by President Donald Trump in November 2017 as the 25th US Ambassador to India.
