Use of plastic waste in road construction

GUWAHATI, July 19: A demonstration programme on use of waste plastic in road construction was held at Kahilipara Don Bosco Road on Thursday. The programme was organized following the experiment on waste plastic undertaken by the Public Works Department as pilot project. Talking to The Sentinel, officials of the PWD said that if the project is found to be fruitful, it will be expanded to other corners of the state. Notably, the usage of recycled waste plastic in road construction will reduce the amount of bitumen, thereby is expected to trim the cost from Rs 50,000 to Rs 30,000 per km.
