Veteran freedom fighter passes away

GAURISAGAR, Jan 8:  Miram Hazarika, veteran freedom fighter, educationist, former president of mtidole GP and a resident of Dhepor Mridongia village in mti on the outskirt of Amguri in Sivasagar district, passed away on Saturday at his residence due to old-age ailment. He was 98.

 Born on January 17 in 1922 in a cultivator family, Hazarika did his schooling from 85 no Loonpuria LP School and mti ME School. He passed his matriculation in 1947 from Jorhat High School. He passed his PU examition in 1962 from JB College, Jorhat. At that time Indian freedom movement was in full swing across the country. Like others he too joined the agitation following the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and was actively involved in the freedom movement.  He joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) and did organizatiol work together with veteran CPI leader and former Amguri MLA Khagen Barboruah.

 In 1951 he was arrested and spent 13 months in prison at Jorhat Jail. In 1954 he joined Praja Socialist party led by Joy Prakash rayan at the appeal of veteran freedom fighter Karuan Kanta Gogoi. He got married to Sarumai Hazarika in 1956. He started his service life in 1954 at Sarupather Me School and later he served in Sepon Me School, Nemuguri High School, Aideobari ME School, Our Institution ME School and at last he got superannuation in 1987 from Karu Kanta Gogoi Memorial HS School, mti (formerly known as Our Institution).

The demise of the veteran  jourlist has cast  a pall of gloom in entire mti Amguri area. Various organizations like mti Press Guild, Tai Bikash Kendra, Kritichinha Sangrakshyan Samiti, mti, Tai Ahom Yuva Chatra Parishad, teachers, employees and students of Karu Kanta Gogoi Memorial HS School, AGP mti Anchalik Samiti, mti Mondal Congress Committee, Ahom Jatiya Ga Mancha, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Nibanuwa Surkashya Mancha and Tai Yuva Chatra Parishad, Sivasagar district committee have condoled the demise of the noted freedom fighter and social worker. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a host of relatives.
