SHILLONG, July 8: Amid the controversy on the mysterious death of Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Mukesh Agarwal said that the post mortem report indicated a case of suicide.

Agarwal while quoting the postmortem report told The Sentinel over phone, “The cause of death is due to anti mortem suicidal hanging”. He said that the post mortem was also videographed to authenticate the findings submitted by the experts of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Asked specifically on whether the deceased was a mentally disturbed person before she took her life inside the toilet of Dispur Police Station, the Commissioner of Police said, “The police on the line of duty have not followed the standard protocol in dealing with a suspected mentally disturbed person.” He further added that the, Assam police have suspended two officers ABSI (Women) Pritilekha Talukdar and ABSI Sanjib Kr. Chetri.

Nevertheless, even as family members as well as public representatives in Meghalaya raised a number of queries on the cause of her death, Assam Police are convinced that the cause of her death is well explained through the findings of the probe.

It may be mentioned that the deceased was reported to have created unwanted scenes inside the Intertiol Hospital in Guwahati before being picked up by the police. Officially, the hospital authorities have already given in writing to the police about the behavior of the women.
