Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam Arrest One On Bribe Charge

GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam on Friday caught one Niranjan Bhuyan (41) of Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district red handed while he was accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 15,000 from Md. Bipul Ahmed, a truck driver of same village. The bribe money was seized from the possession of accused. The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from Ahmed in the name of influencing the OC of Baihata Chariali Police Station SI Pankaj Das. Das was to pay the first installment (Rs 15,000) out of the total bribe amount. The role of the OC of Baihata Chariali is being investigated. The accused was trying to act as a middleman and had threatened Ahmed that he has to pay the amount to save himself from arrest in a case of vehicle theft at Baihata PS in which Ahmed was being falsely implicated.
