Vijay Mallya faces Indian fans' anger, Crowd chants 'Vijay Mallya chor hai'

London: Like every other cricket fans and especially the Indian cricket team fans, Vijay Mallya too was one who had gone to watch the India Vs Australia match in the Oval cricket stadium in London. But much to his dismay, it all turned a bitter experience for him for the negative greetings he received from other Indian fans present in the stadium.

The incident took place after the match when Mallya was coming out of the stadium with his mother. A certain crowd surrounded the liquor baron and teased him while chanting 'Vijay Mallya chor hai' (Vijay Mallya is thief), 'Chor, chor (thief, thief).

The run-away Indian liquor baron cum businessman is currently living in India escaping a huge loan that he had taken up from a group of 17 Indian banks. As reported, he has to repay a loan of approximately Rs. 9,000 crore. The businessman is currently undergoing facing extradition proceedings in the UK with the Income Tax Department and the Central Bureau of Investigation investigating on his crimes. Notably, Vijay Mallya was the chief of now defunct Kingfisher Airlines as well.

It is for these controversies of the liquor baron that he had to face the anger and taunts of Indian populace present at the Oval cricket stadium.

However, he was also being asked to give his reaction on the slur he received at the stadium to which he said, "I am just making sure my mother does not get hurt."

He further added, "What do you do if you get caught in the mayhem with your old mother."

Video footage of Mallya being surrounded by a crowd and taunting him has surfaced online and in the same footage it is seen that someone from the crowd said him to "be a man and apologise to the country." Responding to this comment, Vijay Mallya said, "yes, please do."

Vijay Mallya’s son Siddharth Mallya was also there in the stadium to watch the India-Australia clash as earlier in the day, he had posted an Instagram photo featuring himself and his father with the stadium in the background.
