Village headman arrested for issuing fake birth certificates

Mangaldai, June 16: The Dalgaon Police in Darrang district on Thursday arrested a gaonburha (village head man) on charges of issuing fake birth certificates. Police produced the arrested village head man of Darrang Bazaar village, identified as Sirajul Haque (50), before the court and the court remanded him to judicial custody.

Earlier, police led by Additiol Superintendent of Police (HQ) Darrang, Suman Chakraborty carried out the investigation into the matter of fake birth certificates on the basis of a complaint filed in Dalgaon PS by an Additiol Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati after many birth certificates submitted along with the NRC application as proof of citizenship by birth were found doubtful.

It has been alleged that the fake certificate supplying racket illegally collected a huge sum of money through the corrupt practice of charging am amount of Rs 400 against each such fake birth certificate. Police have already registered a case in this connection and further investigations are still on to find out other members of the notorious racket.
