Violent Clash breaks out between AGP and Congress supporters in Tezpur

Tezpur: In an awkward incident at Parmai Guli under Dolabari Gaon Panchayat, few Congress supporters allegedly ransacked a shop on Thursday morning after Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate from ward No. 5 candidate Chaya Devi Chetri came out victorious in the Panchayat Polls 2018.

Reportedly, there was a violent clash among the supporters of AGP candidate Chaya Devi Chetri and Congress Candidate Jasmin Begum since the evening hours on Wednesday.

Later, the matter was taken over by the police. The local police later managed to get hold of the situation.

Supporters of Chaya Devi Chetri also alleged that AGP supporters have attacked at her residence on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the media, Chaya Devi Chetri said, “Congress supporters have been defaming my image in front of the public which is baseless. I managed to win the elections only because of the public.”

She continued stating that the Congress supporters have attacked her residence out of jealousy. “They attacked my supporters after the declaration of the polling results,” added Chaya.

The supporters of AGP in the area further alleged that a ‘Gundaraj’ has been carried out in the region by the Congress supporters.

It may also be mentioned that one local person has been supporting Chaya Devi Chetri in the Panchayat elections was attacked by the supporters of Congress party, they reportedly threatened him for supporting AGP candidate Chaya Devi Chetri.
