Waqar resigns as Pakistan coach

Lahore, April 4: Pakistan's head coach Waqar Younis resigned on Monday weeks after his team's humiliating exit from the World Twenty20 in the group stages.

Pakistan lost three consecutive matches at the group stage of the World T20, including a bruising defeat to India, to exit the tourment amidst heavy criticism.

Pakistan's T20 captain Shahid Afridi has also stepped down from his post accepting responsibility for the poor show.

“I am resigning from my post today with a heavy heart,” he was quoted as saying by dawn.com in a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium here.

The former captain said the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) failure to implement his recommendations after the 2015 World Cup and the "leak" of his confidential report after the team's disastrous run at the World T20 played a 'big' role in his walking away from his post three months before his contract expires.
