We are responsible for depletion of forests: Rowell Lyngdoh

Shillong, June 10: The Basin Environment Week, 2016, which was kicked off on June 6, concluded today at the Multipurpose Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

World Environment Day was also observed by the District Legal Services Authority, South West Khasi Hills in collaboration with the Basin Development Unit (BDU), Mawkyrwat at the same venue.

Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, R.Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District and Chairman of B.D.U. Mawkyrwat were present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion Rowell Lyngdoh said, “There is rampant destruction of the environment and we are responsible for the depletion of the atmosphere. It is the need of the time to preserve our environment.”

Lyngdoh also stressed on the importance of sanitation to fulfill the goal of Swachh Bharat Mission. He appealed the people to work together for the protection of environment.

1500 fish fingerlings were released at Photumnew by Seng Samla Shnong, Mawkyrwat in collaboration with the Fisheries Department, Mawkyrwat.
