SHILLONG, May 5: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM P N Syiem on Friday has taken a decision to allow landowners who are not affected by the 11 meters land grab by the state government to apprise the District Council through their respective village Sordar on the border fencing along Indo-Bangla border.
It may be mentioned that last month on April 19, in a meeting held between the KHADC and leaders of Coordition Committee on Intertiol Border (CCIB) had informed that the fil decision concerning the border fencing along the Indo-Bangla border will be taken at a meeting to be held on May 5, 2017.
Further the ibility to chalk out a clear cut decision in the meeting on the wire fencing in border areas of Meghalaya between KHADC and CCIB is due to the fact that many village Sordars, headmen along with land owners affected by the border issue was not in attendance.
Today’s meeting to discuss on the issue of border fencing from Nongjri till Umngot river at the KHADC was attended by leaders of CCIB, KSU, HNYF, Sordar, headman and the District Council Chief PN Syiem.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting Syiem said, “We have taken a decision to allow the landowners to apprise the Council through their respective Sordar on the issue of border fencing.”
He said the after receiving the grievances of the landowners the KHADC will hold an Executive Committee meeting to take a decision to write to the state government and if need to the central government on the issue.
Asked whether the government has sought NOC from the KHADC concerning border fencing, the KHADC Chief said, there are areas where the government had asked for NOC and some areas where they did not ask for any NOC.
