Wife kills husband in drunken stupor

MARGHERITA, April 1: Sabitri Murmu (43), resident of 3 No Makum, Margherita allegedly killed her husband Pagaa Murmu (52) with a sharp machete recently.

The deceased, Pagaa Murmu, and Sabitri Murmu were drunk and they started quarelling. Sabitri attacked her husband with a sharp machete and he died on the spot.  A case No 74/15 U/S 302 was registered at Margherita Police Station. Sabitri Murmu was sent to District Jail Tinsukia. Lobo Murmu, general secretary of All Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA) Margherita Regiol Committee, has expressed concern over the rampant sale of illegal liquor in Margherita and the alleged indifferent attitude of the Margherita excise officials.  He said that unless the administration and excise department took concrete measures to check the sale of illegal liquor, they would launch an agitation.
