However, after few months Manju herself contacted the Bishramguanj police station and requested to rescue her from Sanjoy Datta with whom she was staying in a rented house at Karimganj in Assam. She alleged that Sanjoy was forcing her to sleep with other man and was torturing her.

The Bishramgunj police immediately rushed to Karimganj and arrested the duo. Police soon started the murder trial to which they admitted guilty. It has been learnt that Manju had two daughters while her paramour Sanjoy married twice before eloping with her.
