Wild elephant creates havoc in Misamari

TEZPUR, May 13: With the other parts of the state the wild elephant herds are again creating havoc in the northern part of Sonitpur district for the last few days.

In a tragic incident, last night two persons identified as Doram Hemrom and his wife Shampu Hemrom of Ragapara Kacharaigaon pam under Rangapara PS, sustained serious injury due to attack by a wild elephant’s herd. The herd of the elephants also damaged livestock in the area. The injured have been admitted to the Tezpur Medical College.

However, forest official of Kalamati gate, Gopal Deka said that the wild elephant’s herd use to come out searching for food in human habitat. “We have been dealing with the issue very sincerely to deport the elephant’s herd to the Soi Rupai Sanctuary so that it couldn’t cause harm to humans besides livestock, damage property.” Deka said.
