Wildlife cases: Police too can file chargesheets, rules HC

Guwahati, June 13: The Gauhati High Court has ruled that police, apart from forest officials, too can file chargesheets in cases relating wildlife crime. A bench of Justice Indira Shah, while hearing a crimil case, asked the government to amend the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 to eble police to file such chargesheets.  According to the Section 55 in The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, a court can cognizance of any offence against this Act only if the complaint is from a forest official.
