Wind in favour of Congress: CM

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

GAON, February 21: “All need change, but that should not lead our society towards destruction. Change brought by the Congress government in the last 15 years was the change that people wanted and that is why we are in power for such a long time and we will retain power for the fourth consecutive time as well. The wind is favouring the Congress again,” said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday at Batadrava, 15 km from gaon.

Gogoi was addressing a mammoth gathering at a rally organized by the Batradava- Dolongghat Block Congress Committee at the Batadrava Hindi School playground. Setting the mood for the election campaign, Gogoi reminded people about the situation in the State before his government came to power. “There were no guarantee of life, no development, no salary for government employees, schools were broken and roads were in a deplorable condition. BJP was in the Centre and AGP ruled the State at that time. But our government brought in many changes in due time,” Gogoi pointed out.

“You cannot follow Gujrat model here. BJP is advocating the rich. But we pledged to work for the poor. No one can stop me from distributing yarn, blankets and cycles etc among the poor,” the Chief Minister asserted.

Attacking Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi said that Sarma tried to scare him by filing one legal suit after another against him. “I do not care about any legal suit as millions of poor people are standing by my side. I can face hundred such cases. I will not bow down before him. It is better to touch the feet of millions of poor people than to bow down before people like him,” said Gogoi. Taking a dig at Prime Minister rendra Modi, Gogoi said that Modi had promised to bring acche din by controlling price hike, solving the unemployment problem, driving out illegal immigrants and stopping the dam project at Subansiri, but all such promises came to ught.

“Now, BJP is being a mixed party. It is a mixture of both sweet and sour. All opportunists from Congress, AGP, AASU and BPF have mixed up for their common opportunistic ideology. Be aware from such a party,” Gogoi appealed to the people. He assured to continue working for the welfare of the people of Assam. He said that his government was giving thrust on empowerment of women.

The rally was attended by ministers Rakibul Hussain and Bismita Gogoi, MLA Durlov Chamua, MLA Gautom Bora, chairman of gaon ZPC, Nurul Hooda and gaon District Congress chairperson Maya Chakraborthy.

Koliabor constituency  MP Gaurav Gogoi delivered the welcome speech. In his speech the MP appealed to people to keep faith in the development brought to the State by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and to bring him back to power.

Earlier the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of a gate at the Batadrava shrine. Significantly, no one from the Batradava Shrine committee was invited or seen at the function.
