Winners of Dibrugarh Swachhata Awards 2018 Announced

Dibrugarh: The winners of the Dibrugarh Swachhata Awards 2018, a competition organized by the Dibrugarh administration in association with Dibrugarh Municipal Board to infuse the spirit of cleanliness among a wide range of entities in the town, were announced recently at an event held at the District Library.

The winners were also awarded on the occasion for their commitment to cleanliness. Gracing the event, noted litterateur and District Ambassador for Cleanliness, Dr Nagen Saikia was all praise for the competition of that kind. He mentioned that such an effort to promote a healthy and hygienic atmosphere in the town was earlier unheard of, and as such, was very welcoming. He, however, was quick to admit that the reality in matters of cleanliness was still a far cry from the expectations, and therefore, called on all the people to not just keep their surroundings clean, but also pay equal attention to their town.

Saikia also observed that the authorities concerned should exercise stricter measures to ensure cleanliness. Both the MLAs, Prashanta Phukan and Rituparna Baruah, echoed the words of Saikia and reminded the public of their indispensable role in the matter. Addressing the gathering, DC Laya Madduri said that the results of the competition had shed light on many crucial areas, including the hitherto penetration of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Swachh Survekshan among the common people. Other important findings as to the quality of drinking water provided by hotels, restaurants and nursing homes, and their commitment towards cleanliness and sanitation had also come to light, she added.

For the competition, 13 categories were created, and the participants in each of those categories were evaluated on 10 parameters. Some of the winners of the Dibrugarh Swachhata Awards – 2018 included Amba Heights (Apartment Category), Dhekela Siring Namghar (Religious Institution Category), Dibrugarh Central Jail (Public Office Category), Little Flower School (Educational Institution Category), Archana Hospital (Private Nursing Home Category) and Garden Treat (Marriage Hall Category).
