Not only political parties, people also are waiting for May 19, the date of declaration of result. People are optimistic about the results since they have been promised of a better future. The results does not matter to them, it is the promises made by the parties that needs to be delivered on time. “We want a government that can deliver and also can fulfill the aspirations of the people,” said, Ajoy Paul, 48, an employee. “Any party that comes to power should fulfill the promises they made at the time of campaigning,” he added to say. Some sections of the people residing at Silchar are not happy with the ‘cosmetic changes’ that have taken place over the few years. Sanjoy Biswas, a teacher by profession, said, “Building malls, lavish restaurants, parks and shopping complexes add only to the exterl beauty, it is cosmetic in ture. We want development at that grass-root level.” Residents of the town are unsatisfied with certain aspects of development that needs immediate attention. Road, transport and communication system is poor. Owing to the poor condition of road, people moving to various parts of the town are facing trouble. In addition to it, irregular supply of power has added fuel to the problem. A good administration can deal fairly with such issues and therefore people are waiting for a sea change in the administrative structure. Many such problems have crippled the town. These problems persist not only in Silchar, at Barak Valley also. The valley is facing serious problems related to road and communication system. People from the rural areas are facing more problems. Muddy roads, unhygienic toilets, poorly constructed houses and schools, irregular power supply are some of the problems of these areas.
