Woman allegedly gang raped in Rowta

MANGALDAI, July 26: An incident of gang rape of a mother of two minor children who lost her husband last year has been reported in Rowta area of Udalguri district. The heinous crime took place on the night of July 22 and it was committed by a group of 12 people at village Sidhakhowa under Rowta Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Rowta Police has registered a case vide Rowta PS Case Number 67//15 under section 376 (G) of Indian Pel Code. According to the case report on July 22, the victim woman had gone to her in-laws’ home at village Batabari (Panidong) and after submitting the NRC form, she boarded a Tata magic vehicle for Rowta. All the passengers got down at Jhargaon before reaching Rowta at about 6.30 pm and on the pretext of depositing the collected passenger’s fares to the owner of the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle accompanied by three other crimils drove the vehicle towards village Sidhakhowa and taking advantage of the darkness, took her to a lonely agriculture field and allegedly raped her.

Taking a step further, all the four crimils invited eight other crimils over phone who too joined them to rob the modesty of the hapless woman. The next morning, a section of conscious villagers of the locality informed the family members of the victim woman at Rowrta Bagan Basti who took her to the Rowta Police Station and lodged an FIR in this regard.

Due to non-availability of the required facilities in Rowta PHC to perform the medical examition, the victim was taken to Udalguri Civil hospital wherein too the medical examition could not be completed. On July 25 the police took her to Tezpur Medical College for medical examition but there too due to non-availability of doctors, as reported by the father of the woman, the medical examition could not be performed. The police are likely to take her again to Tezpur Medical College on Monday for the medical examition.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have identified eight accused persons involved in the heinous crime. They are Khaden Ali, Farada Ali, lu Ali, Saddam Ali, Samser Ali (driver), Munser Ali, Nur Ali and Ajijur Hoque ( another driver), all of village Sidhakhowa area.

Significantly four social organizations of the area were reportedly trying to cover up the incident instead of extending a helping hand towards the victim.
