Woman donates her eyes to a visually-impaired person in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Manak Devi Nahata, a socially active woman of North Lakhimpur town, breathed her last on Tuesday at 8.55 am. She was 71. She was the wife of Gajaraj Nahta, the proprietor of Ratan Automobiles of the town.

Establishing a rare example in the service humanity through benevolence, the woman donated her eyes to light up the world of a visually-impaired person. As per her will, the dignitaries of North Lakhimpur branch Marwari Yuva Mancha and Marwari Sanmilan connected with Lion KK Saharia Eye Hospital in Dibrugarh and collected the necessary kits to preserve the eyes. Later, an eye specialist of Lakhimpur, Dr Rup Kumar Phukan collected her eyes by performing a surgery and then they were sent to the Dibrugarh-based hospital.
