Woman raped and murdered in Changlang village

Itagar, April 28: A 36 year old mother was allegedly raped and murdered on Sunday at Old Khamdu village under Jairampur Police Station in Changlang district of Aruchal Pradesh.

One person has been arrested who later confessed to the police his involvement in the crime. The culprit has been identified as one Khioto Sema, reported to be a labourer hailing from Dimapur, galand.

The police have completed the prelimiry investigation which indicates that the women was raped and murdered.

The incident is reported to have happened when the woman had gone to the river to take bath. The police who arrived at the crime scene said that there were signs of extreme brutality on the body of the victim. The victim leaves behind her three year old daughter and husband.

Meanwhile, angry citizens on Monday surrounded the PHC demanding that Sema be handed over to them. Angered at police refusal, they pelted stones injuring few police personnel and also damaged the window panes of the hospital.

The situation was brought under control later. SP, Changlang Vijay Kumar also arrived at Jairampur today and met the agitated citizens.  

Meanwhile, the President of the Aruchal Youth Congress, Eastern parliamentary constituency, James Jugli has demanded immediate trial of the culprit. Any crime will not be tolerated, he said. Womens’ right activist and Aruchal Pradesh Youth Congress General Secretary, Pin K Muklom has condemned the rape and murder of the woman. She also called for immediate trial and sentencing of the culprit so that no one dares to repeat such crimes in the state.
