From our Correspondent

MANGALDAI, March 30: The recovery of the beheaded body of a missing minor village girl of Darrang district in a lonely and abandoned area near Deepor Beel in Guwahati not only has created sensation here, but also revealed the ongoing evil practice of woman trafficking at the behest of an organized gang of anti-social elements. Significantly, the Darrang police at the initiative of the Investigating Officer- cum-Deputy Superintendent of Police (Probatiory) Rashmi Rekha Sarma acted promptly and arrested three key persons involved in woman trafficking and the subsequent murder of the village girl.

According to the information, Masooma Begum (15), daughter of rickshaw puller Jahiruddin of village Balabari under Dhula Police station in Darrang district was reportedly missing since March 16 when she was on her way to her grandmother’s house at Mangaldai. The poor father, after making several futile attempts to trace his missing daughter, informed the Dhula Police station only on March 23. Taking the case very seriously, Superintendent of Police Vivek Raj Singh entrusted the lady DSP (Probatiory) the investigation of the case. Accordingly, the lady DSP accompanied by the Officer in Charge of Dhula Police Station successfully arrested Sahadur Rahman of village Batabari under Dhula Police Station which led to the arrest of two more persons,  Fazar Ali of village Panbari and Fazibor Rahman of Dhula area who were staying in Guwahati.

According to the confession of arrested Sahadur, he lured the girl with false assurance and took her to New Delhi by train from Guwahati on March 18 and negotiated to sell her in New Delhi but as he failed to get the expected amount of Rs. 1 lakh, he took her back to Guwahati and immediately after arrival at Kamakhya Station on March 21, Sahadur accompanied by both the co-accused, took the minor girl to Deepor Beel area and beheaded her. They also buried the head and the body separately only to conceal any evidence. Sahadur also led the police to the recovery of the beheaded body and the head of the hapless girl.
