'Workers of Assam continue to be deprived, exploited'

MARGHERITA, May 1: Labour Day was observed at Margherita Sahitya Chora in Margherita on Sunday where more than 200 workers from various industries were present. Labour Day was observed under the banner of Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity (CMSS), Margherita Regiol Committee.
An open meeting was held at Margherita Sahitya Chora which was presided over by noted writer of Margherita, Comrade Bikash Dasgupta. Comrade Subrato Chakraborthy, advisor of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity and also veteran trade union leader was present as the chief guest. Mash Konwar, working president of CMSS, LakhyaJyoti Gogoi, president of CMSS Tinsukia District Committee, Pappu Dutta, president of CMSS Margherita Regiol Committee, Madhab Das, Circle Secretary of Assam Tea Labour Union Margherita Circle and many other leaders were present.
Comrade Subrata Chakraborthy in his iugural speech said that the workers of Assam continue to be deprived and exploited by the industry and factory owners and there was big gap between the workers and the owners. Noted writer Comrade Bikash Dasgupta said in his speech that during every election workers vote for change but every time they are let down as the system was corrupt. “If the country has developed then it is because of the workers and peasants but their efforts are always forgotten,” said Dasgupta. He added, “Even after 68 years of Independence, workers and peasants have always been deprived of their rights and basic facilities.”
He further alleged that both Prime Minister rendra Modi and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi were against workers, peasants and common people of the country and both were in favour of industrialists and capitalists.
A resolution was passed to form a trade union at Margherita for the first time called Margherita Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity which will be a sister organization of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity. A convener committee of Margherita Shramik Mukti Sangram Samity was formed today with Comrade Bikash Dasgupt, Lakhyajyoti Gogoi and Pappu Dutta as advisors along with 10-members from various industries of Margherita.
